Pediatrics: Spotlighting the INTEGRIS Health Child Life team

Meet the Child Life team, focused on providing positive experiences for children and their families staying in the hospital

In honor of Child Life Month, we want to highlight this special group of individuals at INTEGRIS Health who provide positive experiences for children in the hospital.

At INTEGRIS Health, our group of certified Child Life Specialists create a more positive experience for kids during what can be a scary time, easing their fears and anxiety around treatment and illness. Our Child Life team was established in 2017, with a grant through the INTEGRIS Health Foundation. Today, the program has expanded to 11 specialists, with more on the way!

Recently, we added a gaming and technology specialist who oversees gaming equipment that’s available in each child’s room. They also lead virtual programming for all the kids – even bingo that kids can play together from their own individual rooms!

Another way Child Life makes sure each patient’s treatment experience is less scary is through the use of teaching dolls. These dolls are designed for specialists to use as an example of how medical equipment would be placed on a child and to teach patients and families about how various procedures will work.

Another favorite program is Beads of Courage, which includes NICU babies, children undergoing treatment for severe burns, and kids with chronic illness. This program helps patients tell their story of bravery through unique beads, each representing a specific moment throughout their medical journey.

Gifts made to the INTEGRIS Health Foundation’s Pediatrics Fund go to support enhancing healthcare services for children across our system, spanning from infancy to adolescence. Learn more about the difference you can make!
